A story for: Luna, Age 5
Created September 17, 2026
Once upon a time, high above the tallest trees and even higher than the puffy white clouds, lived a little girl named Luna. Luna loved the night sky more than anything. Each evening, as the sun dipped below the horizon, painting the sky in sleepy oranges and soft purples, Luna would get ready for her special adventure.
Tonight, as usual, Luna put on her star-printed pajamas and snuggled into her cozy bed. She closed her eyes, took a deep breath, and imagined a silvery ladder appearing right beside her window. It shimmered gently, like moonlight on water. With a happy little giggle, Luna began to climb, up, up, up, past the twinkling stars that winked at her like friendly fireflies.
Soon, she reached her very own cloud-boat, made of the softest, fluffiest cloud material, with a sail woven from starlight. She snuggled into the cloud-boat, feeling warm and safe. The boat began to drift, slowly, silently, through the vast, dark ocean of space.
First, they floated past the Moon, Luna’s namesake. The Moon was round and glowed with a gentle, milky light. It looked like a giant pearl in the sky. Luna waved to the sleepy man in the Moon, who seemed to smile back, a quiet, sleepy smile.
Then, they drifted by Mars, a planet that looked like a big, cuddly orange ball. Luna imagined little alien bunnies hopping around on its surface, tucking themselves into their warm, sandy burrows for the night. She waved to them too, wishing them sweet dreams.
Next, they glided past Jupiter, a giant striped planet that spun ever so slowly, like a huge, colorful marble. Luna saw tiny, sparkling dust motes dancing around Jupiter, like little sleepy sprites putting on a show just for her.
As Luna's cloud-boat continued its peaceful journey, she saw millions and millions of stars, each one a tiny, distant lamp, softly lighting up the darkness. Some stars were big and bright, like friendly lighthouses, while others were small and shy, peeking out from behind wisps of cosmic dust. They sang a silent, sparkling lullaby, just for her.
Luna felt so small and yet so safe, drifting through the quiet, endless sky. The gentle sway of her cloud-boat was like a soft rock-a-bye, soothing her eyelids and making them feel very, very heavy. She snuggled deeper into the cloud, feeling warm from her head to her toes. The universe hummed a quiet, sleepy song, a song of peace and calm.
Her cloud-boat slowly, gently, brought her back down, down, down, past the sleepy stars, past the quiet Moon, until it settled softly beside her bedroom window. Luna yawned a big, happy yawn. She was so very tired from her wonderful space adventure. As she snuggled into her bed, the soft glow of her nightlight looked just like a tiny, friendly star. Luna closed her eyes, a gentle smile on her face, and drifted off into a deep, peaceful sleep, dreaming of all the wonders she had seen in her magical cloud-boat.
