A story for: Leo, Age 7
Created October 23, 2026
High above the world, where the stars twinkled like tiny diamonds, lived a very special dragon named Leo. Leo wasn't like the big, fire-breathing dragons in stories. He was a gentle dragon with scales the color of a calm sunset, and his breath smelled faintly of warm cinnamon. His favorite thing to do was float among the clouds, watching the world below.
One evening, as the sky turned from orange to deep purple, Leo noticed something a little unusual. The Moon, usually so bright and round, looked a bit… tired. Its glow was a little dimmer, and it seemed to be wobbling ever so slightly in the night sky. Leo, being a very kind dragon, felt a little worried for his celestial friend.
He flew closer, his large, soft wings making barely a whisper in the quiet night. "Hello, dear Moon," Leo whispered, his voice like a gentle breeze. "Are you alright? You seem a little sleepy tonight."
The Moon let out a soft, silvery sigh. "Oh, Leo," it hummed, its voice like the quiet ripple of a stream. "I am so tired. I've been shining all night, every night, for so very long. I wish I could just close my eyes for a little while."
Leo thought for a moment. He knew how important the Moon was; it lit the way for sleepy animals and helped the flowers know when to close their petals. "I have an idea," he said, his eyes sparkling gently. "How about I sing you a lullaby? My lullabies are very special; they're made of soft cloud fluff and starlight."
The Moon tilted its silvery face towards Leo, looking hopeful. "Would you, Leo? That would be wonderful."
So, Leo began to sing. His song wasn't loud, but it was incredibly soothing. He sang about the quiet whisper of the wind through sleepy trees, about the gentle sway of the ocean as it rocked its waves to sleep, and about the tiny fireflies that blinked goodnight to the world. He puffed out little clouds of cinnamon-scented mist with each note, which drifted around the Moon like a soft, warm blanket.
The Moon's wobbling slowed. Its light softened even more, becoming a hazy, comforting glow. Slowly, ever so slowly, the Moon's bright edges began to blur, as if it was gently closing its eyes. A peaceful, sleepy smile spread across its face.
Leo continued to sing until the Moon was completely at rest, a soft, sleepy presence in the sky. He watched over it for a little while longer, making sure it was truly sleeping soundly. Then, feeling peaceful and content, Leo found a soft, fluffy cloud of his own. He curled up, his warm scales feeling cozy against the cloud. The quiet hum of the sleeping Moon filled the night, a gentle lullaby for Leo too, as he closed his own eyes and drifted off into a dreamless sleep, knowing his friend, the Moon, was finally getting the rest it deserved.
