A story for: Wren, Age 5
Created October 24, 2026
Far, far away, beneath the shimmering surface of the great blue ocean, lived a very special whale named Wren. Wren wasn't the biggest whale, nor the fastest, but Wren had the most beautiful, gentle singing voice in all the sea. Her songs were like soft, warm blankets made of water.
Every evening, as the sun began to dip its toes into the ocean, painting the sky with whispers of pink and orange, Wren knew it was her time to sing. It was her job, her very favorite job, to sing the ocean to sleep.
First, Wren would take a very deep breath, filling her enormous lungs with the clean, salty air. Then, she would begin. Her song started as a low, soft hum, like the gentle rumble of a sleepy seashell. It traveled through the water, a quiet vibration that tickled the fins of the little silver fish. They would stop their playful darting, their scales glimmering softly as they listened.
The song grew a little, just a tiny bit, becoming a long, smooth melody. It wound its way through the swaying kelp forests, making the long green ribbons dance even more slowly. The shy seahorses would cuddle closer to their leafy beds, their tiny eyes growing heavy. The wise old turtles would tuck their flippers under their shells, letting the music wash over them like a comforting wave.
Wren's song was full of soft 'oooohs' and gentle 'aaahs', like the ocean breathing in and out. It told stories of quiet starlight filtering through the water, of smooth, round pebbles resting peacefully on the seabed, and of the softest coral dreaming in its sleep. Each note was like a lullaby, a whisper of calm for every creature in the deep.
Even the playful dolphins, who usually loved to leap and splash, would slow their flips. They would swim in lazy circles, their clicks and whistles growing softer and softer until they were just quiet sighs. The big, slow-moving jellyfish would pulse with even more grace, their bells gently ringing with Wren's melody.
As the last rays of sunlight faded completely, and the ocean became a deep, velvety blue, Wren's song would become its most peaceful. It was a promise of sweet dreams and quiet slumber. She would sing until every little fish was snuggled in its nook, every crab was tucked safely in its sandy burrow, and every sea anemone had gently folded its colorful arms.
Finally, when the whole ocean was quiet and still, Wren would sing one last, long, loving note. It was her own lullaby, just for herself. She would let the gentle currents carry her, feeling the soft sway of the water all around her. Her big whale eyes would slowly close, filled with the peace of a sleeping ocean. Wren would drift, dreaming of starlight and soft waves, until morning.
