Eli's Starry River Ride

A story for: Eli, Age 5

Created June 26, 2026

The moon, a sleepy, silver crescent, peeked through Eli's window. It cast a gentle glow on his cozy room, making his stuffed animal friends look extra soft and ready for dreams. Eli snuggled under his blanket, warm as a toasted marshmallow, and closed his eyes.

Tonight, Eli wasn't just in his bed. He was on a very special boat, a boat made of moonlight and soft wishes, floating on a shimmering river of stars. The river wasn't cold; it was like warm milk, carrying him gently, gently, through the night sky.

His boat, the 'Dream Weaver,' had a comfy, fluffy cushion just for him. As he floated, tiny, twinkling stars danced above him, winking like happy fireflies. Some stars were big and bright, like shiny buttons, and others were little specks, like magic dust sprinkled across the velvet dark.

Eli leaned back, feeling the soft rocking of the Dream Weaver. He saw a constellation that looked just like a sleepy bear, yawning a big, starry yawn. A little further on, he spotted a lion made of light, not a scary roaring lion, but a kind, majestic one, watching over the night.

He passed by fluffy cloud islands, smelling faintly of lavender and warm cookies. He imagined tiny, sweet dreams sleeping there, waiting for children to dream them. Eli smiled, wondering what kind of dream would float his way tonight.

Suddenly, he saw something new! A family of moon-mice, tiny and silver, were having a picnic on a cloud. They waved their little paws at Eli as he drifted by, and he waved back, feeling a warm, happy flutter in his tummy.

Further along the starry river, the current grew even softer, and the stars twinkled even more gently. The Dream Weaver slowed, almost to a whisper. Eli felt himself getting sleepier and sleepier, his eyelids growing heavy, like little lead weights.

He saw the softest, fluffiest cloud ahead, big enough for his boat to nestle into. It looked like a giant, soft pillow, ready to hold him close. The Dream Weaver glided quietly into the cloud, and Eli felt the warmth and comfort surround him.

The starry river continued its journey, but Eli's boat had found its perfect resting place. He yawned a small, contented yawn, his body sinking deeper into the soft cloud. The last thing he saw before his eyes closed completely was a tiny, friendly star, blinking goodnight. Eli was fast asleep, dreaming sweet dreams in his cloud bed, floating peacefully until morning.
