A story for: Jude, Age 5
Created September 02, 2026
Once upon a time, high above the whispery green hills, lived a little boy named Jude. Jude lived in a most magnificent castle, not made of cold stone, but of soft, fluffy clouds. His castle had turrets that tickled the sky and windows that looked out onto fields of twinkling stars.
Every evening, as the sun began its sleepy journey down, Jude would get ready for bed. Tonight, his mommy, a kind fairy with wings like gossamer, tucked him into his cloud bed. The bed was so soft, it felt like sleeping on a marshmallow.
“Tonight, my sweet Jude,” his mommy whispered, “let’s count the gentle moonbeams that come to visit your room.”
Jude snuggled deeper under his blanket, which was woven from starlight and smelled faintly of lavender. He watched as the first silvery moonbeam danced through his window, painting a soft glow on the wall. “One,” he murmured, his eyelids feeling a little heavy.
Then came another, a little shy, peeking from behind a fluffy cloud. “Two,” Jude yawned, a tiny, happy sound.
The moonbeams were like quiet little friends, drifting in one by one. Some were long and stretched across the floor, like sleepy ribbons. Others were short and round, like silver pennies.
Jude closed his eyes for a moment, just to feel how warm and cozy his cloud bed was. When he opened them again, he saw three more moonbeams arriving all at once, like a quiet parade. “Three, four, five,” he counted, his voice barely a whisper now.
He imagined each moonbeam was bringing a special sleepy wish. One wish was for warm dreams, another for soft breezes, and another for a night filled with peace.
The air in his cloud castle bedroom was sweet and still. He could hear the gentle hum of the sleepy stars outside and the soft swish of his mommy’s fairy wings as she sat by his bed. He felt so safe and loved.
More moonbeams drifted in, painting the room with their soft light. Jude didn’t even try to count them all now. He just watched their gentle dance, feeling his body sink deeper and deeper into the cloud bed. His breathing became slow and even, like the quiet lapping of tiny waves.
His eyelids grew heavier and heavier, like two little cloud curtains slowly closing. He felt a soft kiss on his forehead. The moonbeams kept their quiet vigil, but Jude no longer saw them. He was drifting off, wrapped in the warmth of his cloud castle, dreaming sweet dreams as soft and light as the clouds themselves.
