A story for: Nora, Age 5
Created August 04, 2026
Once upon a time, high above the world where the stars twinkled like tiny diamonds, lived a sweet little dragon named Nora. Nora wasn't like other dragons you might read about; she didn't breathe fire or guard treasure. Nora's scales shimmered in gentle shades of lavender and silver, and her wings were soft like a butterfly's.
Nora had a very important job, a secret job that only she knew about. Every night, when the sun dipped below the horizon and the world grew quiet, Nora would fly up, up, up into the inky blue sky. Her job was to help the big, round moon fall asleep.
The moon, you see, worked very hard all night long, shining its soft light down on all the sleepy animals and quiet houses. By the time morning began to peek, the moon was very, very tired. Its glow would become a little dim, and it would yawn a big, silent yawn across the sky.
When Nora saw the moon getting sleepy, she would gently fly closer. "Hello, dear Moon," she'd whisper, her voice like the rustle of leaves in a gentle breeze. "It's time for your rest."
First, Nora would gather the softest, fluffiest clouds she could find. She'd nudge them with her nose, guiding them around the moon like a cozy blanket. "There, there," she'd hum, as the clouds settled softly, making a perfect bed for the tired moon.
Next, Nora would hum a lullaby. It wasn't a loud song, but a soft, humming tune that sounded like the distant murmur of the ocean. She'd sing about sleepy stars twinkling in their beds, about little bunnies snuggled in their burrows, and about fluffy clouds drifting lazily by. The moon would listen, its light growing softer and softer with each gentle note.
As Nora hummed, she would gently pat the moon's surface with her soft, lavender tail. It was like a gentle tap, tap, tap, just enough to soothe the moon into a deeper sleep. The moon's light would dim even more, until it was just a sliver, peeking out from behind its cloud blanket.
Finally, when the sun's first golden rays appeared, Nora would give the moon one last, gentle nuzzle. "Sweet dreams, dear Moon," she'd whisper. "I'll see you again tonight."
Then, Nora would float down, down, down, back to her own cozy cloud bed. She'd snuggle into the softest part of the cloud, her lavender scales glowing softly in the growing morning light. She'd close her eyes, feeling happy and peaceful, knowing she had helped the world's biggest night light get its much-needed rest. And as the sun rose fully, Nora, too, would drift off into a deep, peaceful sleep, ready for her next night's important task.
