A story for: Nora, Age 7
Created September 16, 2026
Nora snuggled deeper into her bed, a little yawn escaping her lips. The day had been full of adventures – building a magnificent fort in the living room, chasing butterflies in the garden, and even helping her mom bake delicious cookies. Now, the sun had set, painting the sky in soft shades of orange and purple, and a gentle quiet had settled over the house.
She looked around her room. It was her favorite place in the whole wide world. The walls were painted a soft, dreamy blue, like the clearest summer sky. Above her bed hung a mobile with little felt stars and a friendly crescent moon that seemed to wink at her. "Goodnight, stars," Nora whispered, as if they could hear her.
Her favorite teddy bear, Barnaby, was propped up on her pillow, his button eyes looking wise and kind. Nora gave him a little pat. "Ready for dreamland, Barnaby?" she murmured. He seemed to nod in agreement.
The nightlight in the corner cast a warm, glowy circle on the carpet, making the shadows in the room feel friendly and soft. Nora imagined the glow was a tiny, magical pond, where fireflies danced and played. She thought about how her room felt like a giant, soft cloud, just for her. Her blanket was like the fluffiest part of the cloud, keeping her warm and safe.
She closed her eyes for a moment, listening to the quiet. She could hear the gentle tick-tock of the clock in the hallway, like a tiny heartbeat keeping time. Outside her window, a very gentle breeze rustled the leaves of the big oak tree, whispering soft lullabies. Nora imagined the tree was singing her a special song, just for bedtime.
Nora took a deep, slow breath, feeling her chest rise and fall like a gentle wave. She remembered all the happy things from her day: the smell of warm cookies, the flutter of a butterfly's wings, the way her fort felt so secret and special. Each memory was like a little star twinkling in her mind.
Her eyelids felt heavy, like they were made of softest velvet. The blue walls of her room seemed to hug her, and her bed felt like a cozy nest. She imagined she was floating on her cloud bed, drifting slowly towards a sky full of gentle dreams. The little felt stars on her mobile seemed to spin even more slowly now, guiding her to sleep.
With one last sleepy sigh, Nora let her thoughts float away, like tiny dandelion seeds carried on the breeze. She was safe, she was warm, and her cozy cloud room was ready to welcome her dreams. A soft, peaceful sleep began to pull her in, wrapping her in its comforting embrace, until she was completely, happily asleep.
