A story for: Wren, Age 7
Created September 16, 2026
Deep, deep under the sparkly ocean waves lived a kind, blue whale named Wren. Wren wasn't like other whales who liked to splash and play loudly. Wren loved quiet, peaceful things, especially the magic of nighttime.
Every evening, as the sun dipped below the water's surface, painting the sky in shades of soft pink and sleepy orange, Wren would feel a special song begin to bubble up inside her. It wasn't a loud, booming song, but a gentle, humming melody, like a lullaby for the whole wide ocean.
First, Wren would hum to the little fish, who were darting about, playing hide-and-seek in the coral. Her song was like a soft whisper, telling them, 'Time to rest your fins, little ones.' The fish would slow their swimming, their bright scales shimmering a little less, and find cozy nooks in the coral to settle down.
Next, her song would drift upwards, past the swaying seaweed forests, to the playful dolphins. The dolphins, who loved to leap and twirl all day, would hear Wren's tune and feel their happy energy soften. They'd do one last graceful flip, then glide slowly, side-by-side, finding a calm spot to float until morning.
Wren's song would grow a little stronger, reaching the big, slow sea turtles, who were always on long journeys. Her melody was a comforting blanket, telling them, 'You've traveled far today. Now, it's time to dream of sandy shores.' The turtles would tuck their ancient heads into their shells, feeling safe and sound.
As the night grew darker, and the stars began to twinkle far, far above, Wren's song became the most beautiful. It shimmered through the water, a warm, blue light, touching every creature, from the smallest glowing plankton to the biggest, sleepy sharks. It wrapped around the whole ocean, a perfect, peaceful hug.
Even the ocean currents seemed to slow their dance, moving with a gentler rhythm in time with Wren's tune. The water itself felt softer, calmer, as if it too was listening and settling down for the night.
Wren would sing until the very last creature was nestled and still, until the whole ocean hummed with a quiet, sleepy peace. Then, and only then, would Wren feel her own eyelids grow heavy. Her gentle song had soothed the world around her, and now, it was time for her to rest too.
With one last, long, comforting hum, Wren closed her big, kind eyes. She drifted slowly, peacefully, through the quiet, dreaming ocean, her heart full of the calm she had brought to everyone. And as she slept, the ocean slept with her, wrapped in the gentle magic of Wren's song, until the first rays of morning light would beckon them awake once more.
