A story for: Ava, Age 5
Created September 06, 2026
Once upon a time, high above the world, lived a little astronaut named Ava. Ava wasn't just any astronaut; she was a sleepy astronaut, with dreams as big and bright as the stars she loved to visit.
Every night, after her yummy dinner and a warm bath, Ava would put on her softest pajamas, the ones with tiny glowing stars all over them. She’d snuggle into her bed, which felt like a cozy cloud, and look out her window. Outside, the moon shone like a friendly night light, and the stars twinkled like little diamonds.
Tonight, Ava felt especially sleepy. Her eyelids were getting heavy, like tiny curtains wanting to close. But before she drifted off, she remembered her favorite bedtime ritual. She would pick a star, just one special star, and imagine a gentle journey to it.
“Tonight,” Ava whispered, her voice soft and sleepy, “I choose the Winking Star.” The Winking Star was a tiny, friendly star that blinked slowly, as if saying hello and goodnight all at once.
Ava closed her eyes. Immediately, she felt a gentle lift, as if she were floating on a soft, warm bubble. Up, up, up she went, past the tall trees that looked like sleeping giants, past the fluffy white clouds that looked like cotton candy, and higher still, until she was among the stars.
The Winking Star shimmered closer, not too bright, not too loud, just a peaceful, soft glow. When Ava reached it, she found it wasn’t a hot, fiery ball, but a warm, squishy pillow of light. She gently snuggled into its soft, glowing surface. It felt like the warmest, safest hug in the whole universe.
As she rested there, she heard the softest music, like tiny bells tinkling gently. It was the sound of the universe humming its lullaby. The other stars around her seemed to dim a little, becoming soft, blurry lights, like sleepy eyes closing one by one.
Ava yawned a big, happy yawn. The Winking Star pulsed with a gentle, sleepy rhythm, rocking her ever so slightly. She felt her body relax, from her wiggly toes to her sleepy head. Her breathing became slow and even, like the gentle waves of a calm ocean.
Soon, her journey to the Winking Star turned into a dream. A dream where she floated among the stars, held safe and warm, until the first hint of morning sunshine would peek through her window, ready to wake her for another day of starry adventures. But for now, Ava was fast asleep, dreaming sweet, starry dreams.
