Ava's Forest Lullaby

A story for: Ava, Age 3

Created October 25, 2026

Once upon a time, nestled deep in a soft, green forest, lived a little girl named Ava. Ava loved the forest, especially at bedtime when the sky turned a sleepy shade of purple and the stars began to peek out like tiny, sparkling eyes. Tonight, Ava was tucked snugly in her bed, which felt like a cloud made of the fluffiest marshmallows.

She looked out her window, and the forest seemed to whisper goodnight. A little brown bunny, named Barnaby, hopped by, wiggling his nose. “Goodnight, Barnaby,” Ava murmured, as Barnaby gave a tiny yawn and snuggled into his burrow beneath a big oak tree.

Then, a wise old owl, named Oliver, flew gently past, his feathers as soft as velvet. Oliver hooted a quiet ‘hoo-hoo’ as he settled onto his branch, ready to watch over the sleeping forest. “Goodnight, Oliver,” Ava whispered, her eyelids starting to feel a little heavy.

Next, a family of deer, with their soft, dappled coats, tip-toed through the tall grass. Mama Deer nudged her fawn, Lily, gently, and they lay down together, cozy and warm, like a picture from a dream. “Goodnight, dear deer,” Ava yawned, a big, sleepy yawn that stretched her whole body.

Ava heard the gentle rustle of leaves as a little fox, named Foxy, curled up at the base of a bush, his tail like a warm, orange blanket. Foxy closed his eyes, ready for sweet dreams of chasing butterflies. “Goodnight, Foxy,” Ava mumbled, snuggling deeper into her covers.

Even the tiny, busy ants were slowing down, crawling into their anthill for a long night’s rest. The ladybugs were tucked under leaves, and the crickets were starting their soft, sleepy song – a little ‘chirp-chirp-chirp’ that sounded like a lullaby.

Ava felt so warm and safe in her bed, just like all the forest friends were warm and safe in their homes. She closed her eyes, imagining the gentle moonlight shining down on Barnaby, Oliver, the deer, Foxy, and all the little creatures. She could almost feel the soft breeze, hear the peaceful sounds of the forest settling down for the night.

Slowly, slowly, Ava’s breathing became soft and even. Her body felt heavy and calm. The last thing she heard was the faint ‘chirp-chirp-chirp’ of the crickets, singing her a special, sleepy song, until Ava, too, drifted off into a peaceful, wonderful sleep, filled with dreams of her cozy forest friends.
