Eli's Lullaby of the Deep

A story for: Eli, Age 3

Created July 21, 2026

Far, far away, in the deepest, bluest part of the ocean, lived a very special whale named Eli. Eli wasn't just any whale; he had the most beautiful, softest singing voice in all the sea. Every evening, as the sun dipped low and painted the sky in shades of orange and pink, Eli knew it was his time to sing.

Tonight, as a million tiny stars began to twinkle above the water, Eli took a deep, gentle breath. He looked around and saw the little fishes getting sleepy, their fins moving slower and slower. The busy crabs were tucking themselves into their sandy beds, and even the tall, swaying seaweed was starting to droop, ready for a good night's rest.

Eli opened his mouth, not too wide, but just enough for a soft, humming sound to float out. It wasn't a loud song, or a fast song. It was a slow, warm, wavy song, like a gentle hug. He sang about the quiet moon climbing high in the sky, and about the calm, dark water that kept everyone safe and sound.

His song drifted through the ocean, past the sleepy starfish clinging to the rocks, and around the little sea turtles who were already dreaming of tasty jellyfish. The water itself seemed to listen, becoming smoother and calmer with each note Eli sang. It was a lullaby for the whole ocean.

As Eli sang, he swam slowly, his big, gentle body moving gracefully through the water. He didn't want to wake anyone, just help them drift off to dreamland. He sang about happy dreams, and soft beds, and waking up feeling refreshed and ready for a new day of play.

The little fishes closed their eyes. The busy crabs snored tiny crab snores. Even the big, powerful sharks, who were usually so busy, felt a peaceful calm spread over them and began to doze off, resting their pointy noses on the soft ocean floor.

Eli felt a little sleepy himself. His big whale heart was full of warmth, knowing he had helped all his ocean friends go to sleep. His song became softer and softer, like a whisper carried on the currents. He sang one last, long, gentle note, letting it echo softly until it faded away completely.

Then, Eli yawned a big, silent whale yawn. He found a cozy spot near a patch of glowing coral, and with a contented sigh, he closed his own big, kind eyes. The ocean was quiet now, save for the gentle sway of the waves, and Eli, the singing whale, was fast asleep, dreaming peaceful dreams in the deep, blue sea.
