A story for: Ivy, Age 6
Created September 30, 2026
Once upon a time, nestled in a cozy burrow beneath a sleepy oak tree, lived a brave little bunny named Ivy. Ivy had soft, snowy-white fur and a twitchy pink nose. But what made Ivy truly special was her big, kind heart and her very important job: she was the keeper of the Dream Lantern.
The Dream Lantern wasn't like any other lantern. It glowed with a gentle, shimmery light, not too bright, not too dim, but just right for lighting up the path to wonderful dreams. Every evening, as the stars began to twinkle like tiny diamond dust, Ivy would carefully carry the Dream Lantern from its special mossy nook.
Tonight, the air was cool and smelled of damp earth and late-blooming honeysuckle. Ivy hopped quietly through the moonlit meadow, her long ears alert, listening to the soft hoot of an owl and the whisper of the wind through the tall grass. The Dream Lantern swayed gently, casting dancing shadows all around her, like playful sprites.
As Ivy walked, she thought of all the sleepy little creatures in their beds – the baby squirrels curled in their nests, the small field mice snuggled in their burrows, and even the sleepy little foxes dreaming of chasing butterflies. The Dream Lantern's light would help them find their way to the very best dreams. Dreams of soaring like a bird, or swimming in a sparkling stream, or finding a field full of juicy clover.
Sometimes, a tiny wisp of a worried thought would try to sneak into a dream. But Ivy, with her brave little heart, would gently wave the Dream Lantern, and its warm glow would chase the worry away, replacing it with a soft, comforting feeling. She made sure every dream was filled with happiness and peace.
Tonight, Ivy reached the edge of the sleeping forest. She held the Dream Lantern high, its light spreading over the quiet trees. "Sleep well, little ones," she whispered, her voice as soft as a breeze. "May your dreams be sweet and bright."
Ivy felt a peaceful warmth spread through her own little bunny heart. Her important job was done for the night. She turned and hopped slowly back to her burrow, the Dream Lantern still glowing softly in her paw. As she snuggled into her bed of softest moss, she placed the lantern beside her, its light a comforting beacon in the darkness.
She yawned a tiny bunny yawn. The world was quiet now, and safe. Ivy closed her eyes, and as the Dream Lantern cast its last, loving glow over her, she drifted into her own wonderful dreams, knowing that tomorrow, she would be ready to light the way again.
