A story for: Wren, Age 5
Created September 24, 2026
Wren loved the night. It wasn't just any night, but the kind of night where the stars sprinkled the sky like fairy dust, each one twinkling hello. Wren, with eyes as bright as two little blueberries, was tucked snugly in bed, but her thoughts were already soaring.
"Mommy," she whispered, her voice soft like a cloud, "where do the stars go when they get sleepy?"
Her mommy smiled, her hand gently stroking Wren's soft hair. "Well, my sweet Wren, I think the stars never really get sleepy. They just keep shining and watching over us. But tonight, maybe we can pretend that you are a star, finding your own special place to rest."
Wren's eyes widened. "I'm a star?" she giggled, a tiny, happy sound.
"Yes, you are," Mommy confirmed. "A very special, very bright little star named Wren. And tonight, your bed is like your very own cozy spaceship, ready to take you on a gentle journey through the night sky."
Wren closed her eyes, imagining her soft blanket becoming the walls of her spaceship, and her pillow the comfy captain's chair. She could feel a gentle hum, like a sleepy bumblebee, as her spaceship slowly lifted off, leaving her bedroom behind.
First, she drifted past the moon, a big, friendly cheese wheel in the sky. It winked at her, and Wren felt a warm glow spread through her. Then, she soared gently past fluffy clouds, which looked like giant cotton balls, soft and inviting. She saw tiny star-flowers blooming in the darkness, each one sparkling with its own quiet light.
Her spaceship glided past planets, some red like strawberries, some blue like blueberries, and some swirled with colors like a big marble. She didn't need to land on them, just wave hello as she passed, knowing they were all sleeping peacefully in their own way.
As she floated, a soft, sleepy song began to play in her mind. It was a lullaby sung by the distant stars, a whisper of peace and quiet. The hum of her spaceship became softer, like a gentle purr. She felt herself sinking deeper into her captain's chair, her body feeling light and floaty, like a feather drifting on the breeze.
Her journey was slow and peaceful, with no rush to get anywhere. Just the quiet beauty of the sleeping universe around her. She saw other little star-children, also in their own dream-spaceships, drifting off to their own slumber. They waved sleepy hands, and Wren waved back, a warm feeling in her heart.
With each gentle drift, Wren's eyelids felt heavier. The twinkling stars outside her spaceship window blurred into a soft, glowing blanket. The sleepy song of the universe grew fainter, melting into a comfortable silence. Her spaceship found its perfect parking spot, right beside a big, friendly, sleepy star. Wren snuggled deeper into her bed, feeling safe and warm and loved. The gentle hum of her dream-spaceship faded completely, and Wren, the little star, drifted off to sleep, ready for a new day to shine.
