A story for: Arlo, Age 7
Created September 21, 2026
Tonight, as the moon peeked shyly from behind the clouds, little Arlo snuggled deep into his bed. He loved bedtime stories, especially the ones about space, because then he could close his eyes and imagine himself floating among the stars.
“Once upon a time,” Arlo’s dad began, his voice soft and warm like a freshly baked cookie, “there was a boy named Arlo who loved the night sky more than anything. He would gaze out his window, watching the stars twinkle like tiny diamonds scattered across a velvet cloth.”
Arlo smiled, picturing himself doing just that. He could almost feel the cool, gentle air of space around him. “One night,” his dad continued, “as Arlo watched, a tiny, shimmering star began to fall, not quickly, but slowly, like a feather drifting down from a sleepy bird.”
Arlo’s eyes widened a little. “It floated closer and closer, glowing with a soft, warm light, until it landed right on Arlo’s windowsill. It wasn’t hot, but felt like a tiny, smooth pebble warmed by the sun.”
“What did Arlo do?” Arlo whispered, hardly daring to breathe.
“Arlo, being a very kind and curious boy, gently picked up the star. It hummed a quiet, happy tune in his hand, and as he held it, he felt a wonderful warmth spread through him, like a warm cup of cocoa on a cold night. The star was made of pure stardust, and it glowed with dreams.”
“The little stardust star seemed to tell Arlo a secret without words. It wanted to show him the universe. So, Arlo, still holding the tiny star, closed his eyes. Instantly, he wasn’t in his room anymore. He was floating, gently, amongst billions of stars!”
Arlo imagined himself floating, so light and free. He could see planets, some red like rusty apples, others blue like painted marbles, all spinning slowly in the silent, vast space.
“He saw comets with long, glittering tails, zooming by like friendly shooting stars. He saw nebulae, big fluffy clouds of purple and pink and blue, where new stars were being born, like tiny sparks coming to life. And all the while, the little stardust star in his hand glowed, showing him the way, keeping him safe and warm.”
“Arlo didn’t feel scared or alone. He felt peaceful, like he was part of something huge and beautiful. The stardust star sang its quiet lullaby, and as it sang, it began to spread its light. Not just any light, but soft, shimmering stardust, like glitter falling from the sky. It covered Arlo like a warm, comforting blanket, twinkling with all the dreams of the universe.”
Arlo felt his eyelids grow heavy. He imagined the stardust blanket, soft and sparkly, tucking him in. The gentle hum of the stardust star was like a sleepy melody.
“The stardust blanket kept Arlo cozy and safe, whispering sweet dreams of distant galaxies and friendly planets. As he drifted deeper into sleep, the little stardust star snuggled into his hand, promising to fill his dreams with wonder until the morning light.”
Arlo’s breathing became slow and even. The corners of his lips curved into a small, contented smile. He was still holding the stardust star in his dream, wrapped in its soft, shimmering light, peacefully floating through the endless, quiet sky, ready for a night full of starry adventures.
