Finn and the Dream Lantern

A story for: Finn, Age 3

Created July 30, 2026

Once upon a time, nestled in a cozy little burrow, lived a very brave bunny named Finn.

Finn had soft, fluffy white fur, long floppy ears, and a tiny pink nose that twitched with curiosity. Every night, when the stars began to twinkle like tiny diamonds in the inky sky, Finn would get ready for his most special job. He was the keeper of the Dream Lantern.

The Dream Lantern wasn't like any other lantern. It glowed with a gentle, warm light, like a firefly caught in a jar, and it had a magical secret. When its light shone, it helped all the little forest creatures have the sweetest, happiest dreams.

Tonight, Finn was extra excited. He carefully hopped to the little nook where the Dream Lantern rested on a bed of soft moss. He picked it up gently, feeling its warmth spread through his paws. The lantern hummed a quiet, sleepy tune just for him.

Finn tiptoed to the opening of his burrow. The moon was a friendly smile in the sky, and the air was cool and fresh. He held the Dream Lantern high, and its soft light spilled out, stretching over the tall trees and across the quiet pond. He imagined the little squirrels dreaming of delicious acorns, and the baby birds dreaming of flying among the clouds. He thought of the sleepy hedgehogs, tucked in their leaf beds, dreaming of warm berries.

As Finn walked, the light from his lantern danced on the dewdrops, making them sparkle like tiny jewels. He heard the gentle chirping of crickets and the soft rustle of leaves as a friendly breeze whispered hello. Everything felt peaceful and safe. Finn knew that because of his lantern, everyone was dreaming happy dreams.

After a little while, Finn felt his own eyelids start to feel heavy. The Dream Lantern had done its job for the night. Its glow began to dim, becoming just a soft, personal shimmer around Finn.

He hopped back into his cozy burrow, placing the lantern carefully beside his softest blanket. The last of its light wrapped around him like a warm hug. Finn snuggled down, his little nose twitching one last time. He closed his eyes, and with the Dream Lantern by his side, he drifted off to sleep, ready for his own sweet dreams.
