A story for: Theo, Age 4
Created September 27, 2026
Tonight, as the sky turned from bright blue to soft, sleepy purple, a little boy named Theo snuggled deep into his bed.
His teddy bear, Barnaby, was tucked right beside him. Theo loved looking out his window when the sun went down. First, the clouds would turn pink and orange, like giant fluffy marshmallows. Then, as it got darker, the very first star would twinkle, tiny and bright.
Theo called it his Whispering Star because it always seemed to shimmer just for him, like it was telling him a secret.
Tonight, the Whispering Star was extra sparkly. Theo yawned a big, wide yawn. He felt his eyelids getting heavy, like two little curtains ready to close. He wiggled his toes under his warm blanket. It felt so cozy, like being wrapped in a gentle hug.
He thought about his day. He had built a tall tower of blocks, so tall it almost touched the ceiling! And he had helped Mommy water the little green plants on the windowsill. The leaves felt so soft when he touched them gently.
Now, all the excitement of the day was fading away, like the last bit of sunshine disappearing behind the hills. Theo closed his eyes for a moment, and when he opened them again, the Whispering Star seemed even closer.
He imagined the star was singing a very quiet lullaby, just for him. It sounded like the soft rustle of leaves in the breeze, or the gentle lapping of water on a faraway beach. It made his whole body feel calm and still.
Theo took a deep, slow breath in, and then let it out even slower. He did it again. In went the calm, out went any wiggles. In went the peace, out went all the day's chatter.
His breathing became steady and quiet. Barnaby the bear felt soft and warm against his cheek. The room was dark and peaceful, with just a tiny sliver of moonlight peeking through the curtains, making soft shapes on the floor.
Theo’s thoughts began to float away, like little clouds drifting across the sky. He wasn't thinking about blocks or plants anymore. He was just feeling warm and safe and sleepy.
The Whispering Star seemed to twinkle one last, extra soft twinkle, as if to say, "Goodnight, little Theo." And as its gentle light filled his room, Theo drifted off into a deep, peaceful sleep, ready for sweet dreams until the morning light.
