A story for: Leo, Age 3
Created August 21, 2026
The moonbeams danced through Leo's window, painting soft, silver stripes across his bedroom floor. Leo, snug in his blue dinosaur pajamas, wiggled his toes under his warm blanket. His little eyes were wide open, looking around his favorite place in the whole wide world – his bedroom.
First, he looked at his friendly teddy bear, Barnaby, sitting patiently on his pillow. Barnaby always waited for Leo to come to bed. Tonight, Barnaby looked extra soft and fluffy in the gentle light. Leo reached out and gave Barnaby a gentle pat on his head. “Goodnight, Barnaby,” he whispered, his voice as soft as a cloud.
Next, Leo’s eyes drifted to his bookshelf. Rows and rows of colorful books, just waiting to tell their wonderful stories. He saw the book about the sleepy puppy and the book about the happy little train. He remembered the pictures and the silly sounds his mommy made when she read them. A little smile tickled the corners of his mouth.
His gaze then moved to the glow-in-the-dark stars stuck on his ceiling. They looked like tiny, sparkling diamonds scattered across a dark, velvet blanket. Leo imagined he was an astronaut, floating gently among them, visiting all the friendly planets. He pretended to wave at a friendly green star, and the star seemed to twinkle just for him.
Beyond the stars, he saw his nightlight, shaped like a friendly cloud. It cast a warm, comforting glow, chasing away any shadows that might try to hide in the corners. It made his room feel extra safe and cozy, like a big, soft hug.
Leo listened closely. He could hear the soft tick-tock of the clock on his wall. It sounded like a tiny, sleepy heartbeat, counting the moments until morning. And then, he heard a gentle *swish-swish* sound. It was the wind, whispering a lullaby to the trees outside his window. It sounded like the trees were singing him a special sleepy song.
He pulled his blanket up to his chin. It felt like a warm, fluffy cloud wrapped all around him. He snuggled deeper into his bed, feeling the softness of his pillow beneath his head. His eyelids began to feel heavy, like tiny weights were pulling them down.
Leo closed his eyes. He could still see the soft glow of his nightlight and the friendly stars in his mind. He took a deep, slow breath, just like his mommy taught him. In… and out… In… and out. His whole body felt warm and relaxed. Soon, Leo was drifting off, carried away on a gentle wave of sleep, dreaming sweet dreams in his perfectly cozy bedroom.
