Arlo's Dream Lantern

A story for: Arlo, Age 6

Created October 02, 2026

Deep in the Whispering Woods, where the moonbeams painted silver stripes on the tall trees, lived a little bunny named Arlo. Arlo wasn't just any bunny; he was a brave bunny, with soft, white fur and a twitchy pink nose. Every night, as the stars began to twinkle like tiny diamonds, Arlo would begin his special job.

His job was to carry the Dream Lantern. It wasn't a big, heavy lantern, but a small, magical one that glowed with a warm, gentle light. This lantern, Arlo knew, helped light the way for all the good dreams to find the little creatures sleeping soundly in their beds.

One evening, as Arlo carefully held the Dream Lantern, he noticed something. The path to the sleepy owl's tree looked a little darker than usual. "Oh dear," Arlo whispered, his ears swiveling. "The little owlets might have trouble finding their happy dreams tonight!"

Without a moment's hesitation, Arlo hopped bravely forward. The lantern's light bounced gently, making the shadows dance away. He padded past the sleepy butterflies clinging to the honeysuckle, and past the quiet pond where the fish were dreaming of tasty watercress. With each hop, the lantern glowed a little brighter, casting a soft, golden circle around him.

Soon, he reached the big, old oak tree where the owlets snuggled close to their mama. Arlo held the lantern high, and its warm light streamed into their cozy nest. He saw a tiny owlet yawn and stretch, a happy little smile on its beak. Arlo knew his job was done there. The good dreams would find their way.

Next, he visited the sleepy badger, who snored softly in his burrow, and the little field mice, tucked away in their cozy grass nest. Everywhere Arlo went, the Dream Lantern spread its comforting glow, guiding the sweet dreams and chasing away any tiny worries that might be lingering.

As the night grew late, and the moon climbed higher in the sky, Arlo started to feel a bit sleepy himself. His brave journey was almost over. He had made sure all the good dreams had found their homes.

Arlo snuggled into his own soft burrow, the Dream Lantern still glowing softly beside him. Its gentle light filled his little home with warmth and peace. He closed his eyes, and a happy sigh escaped him. He felt safe and loved. The Dream Lantern twinkled one last time, then dimmed, ready for another night. Arlo drifted off to sleep, knowing that he, too, was now ready for his own wonderful dreams, lit by the very same magic he had shared with all his friends.
