Arlo's Stardust Friends

A story for: Arlo, Age 5

Created November 07, 2026

The moonbeams painted soft stripes across Arlo’s bedroom rug. Outside, the world was quiet, tucked in for the night. Arlo snuggled under his cozy blanket, his favorite teddy bear, Barnaby, tucked right beside him.

Tonight, Arlo was thinking about stars. He imagined them like tiny, winking eyes far, far away. He wondered if anyone lived up there, blinking back. Just as he closed his eyes, a little shimmer caught his attention. It wasn't outside, but inside his room, near the window!

A tiny, sparkly light floated gently. It pulsed with soft, rainbow colors, like a sleepy firefly. Then, another light joined it, and another, until three little lights danced in the air. Slowly, slowly, they started to change shape. They weren't lights anymore, but tiny, friendly creatures, no bigger than Arlo’s hand.

One was a soft, glowing blue, with big, curious eyes that blinked slowly. Another was a gentle green, with tiny, feathery antennae that wiggled with excitement. The third was a sunny yellow, round and plump, with a happy, sleepy smile.

They floated closer to Arlo’s bed, making little humming sounds like a gentle lullaby. Arlo wasn't scared. He felt warm and safe. He whispered, “Hello.”

The blue one blinked its big eyes and seemed to say, *“Hello, Arlo.”* But it wasn’t with words, it was with a feeling, a warm, soft thought that bloomed in Arlo’s mind. The green one wiggled its antennae and a sprinkle of stardust drifted down, smelling faintly of sweet cookies.

The yellow one floated right to his bedside table and gently touched his favorite bedtime storybook. It seemed to understand the pictures without even opening the cover, humming a happy, quiet tune.

Arlo giggled softly. “Are you from the stars?” he asked, in his mind.

The blue one glowed brighter, as if to say, *“Yes! We came to say hello and wish you sweet dreams.”*

The green one did a little loop-the-loop, and more stardust twinkled. The yellow one settled down on his pillow, next to Barnaby, its sleepy smile even wider. It felt so peaceful, having these stardust friends in his room.

They didn't make any noise, just gentle, happy hums and soft, comforting glows. Arlo felt his eyelids growing heavy. The blue and green friends floated over him, making a soft, shimmery blanket of light above his bed.

He watched them, feeling so sleepy and safe. The yellow friend snuggled closer to Barnaby, its light dimming to a soft, warm glow. Arlo yawned a big, sleepy yawn. He knew his stardust friends would watch over him. The soft hums and gentle lights made him feel like he was floating on a cloud. With a happy sigh, Arlo closed his eyes, drifting off to sleep, dreaming of friendly star-glows and sweet, cookie-scented stardust.
