A story for: Sage, Age 3
Created October 16, 2026
Once upon a time, in a house filled with giggles and sunshine, lived a sweet little girl named Sage. Sage loved her bedroom more than anything. It was a very special place, just for her.
Tonight, as the sun began to whisper goodnight to the sky, Mama tucked Sage into her soft, warm bed. "Time for dreams, my little star," Mama said, giving Sage a gentle kiss on her forehead.
Sage snuggled under her blanket. It felt like a fluffy cloud, so soft and warm. She looked around her room. First, she saw her friendly teddy bear, Barnaby, sitting on her pillow. Barnaby always watched over her while she slept. "Goodnight, Barnaby," Sage whispered.
Next to Barnaby, was her favorite picture book, open to a page with a smiling moon. Sage imagined the moon winking at her, ready to light up her dreams.
On her bedside table, a little nightlight glowed softly. It wasn't too bright, just enough to make friendly shadows dance on the wall. Sage watched a shadow that looked like a sleepy bunny hop across the wall. Then, it turned into a swaying tree. It was like a little show, just for her.
Sage closed her eyes for a moment and listened. What sounds could she hear in her special room? She heard the gentle tick-tock of her little clock, counting the moments until morning. Tick-tock, tick-tock. It was a comforting sound, like a tiny heart beating in her room.
She could also hear the soft, sleepy hum of the house. It was the house breathing, just like her. In and out, in and out.
Sage thought about all the happy things in her room. Her colorful toy box, holding all her favorite toys, waiting patiently for morning playtime. Her window, through which she could sometimes see a twinkling star, high in the big, dark sky.
Her room felt like a big, warm hug. It was safe and quiet and full of sleepy magic. Sage took a deep breath. She imagined her breath was like a little cloud, floating softly out into the air. In, and out. In, and out.
Her eyelids felt heavy, like two little leaves gently closing. The dancing shadows on the wall grew softer, and the ticking clock seemed to slow down. Sage snuggled deeper into her cloud-like blanket. Her body felt warm and cozy, from her toes to the top of her head.
Soon, her breathing became slow and steady. The little bunny shadow faded, and the swaying tree stood still. Sage was fast asleep, dreaming sweet dreams in her very own, very special, cozy bedroom.
