A story for: Ivy, Age 7
Created September 29, 2026
Once upon a time, nestled in a house with windows that twinkled like sleepy eyes, lived a little girl named Ivy. Ivy loved bedtime, especially when the moon peeked in, casting soft, silver shadows on her walls. Tonight, as she snuggled under her warmest blanket, a special visitor drifted into her room – a small, fluffy cloud, no bigger than a teddy bear.
“Hello, Ivy,” whispered the cloud, its voice like the gentle rustle of leaves. “I am the Whispering Cloud, and I’ve come to tell you a story, just for you.”
Ivy’s eyes grew wide with wonder. A talking cloud! She sat up just a little, her heart feeling warm and cozy. “What kind of story?” she asked softly.
“A story about peace and quiet, about finding your special sleeping spot,” the Whispering Cloud hummed. “Imagine a field of the softest, greenest grass, stretching out under a sky of shimmering stars. In the middle of this field, there’s a little hollow, perfectly shaped like you. It’s lined with velvety moss, cooler than a summer breeze and warmer than a sunbeam.”
Ivy closed her eyes, imagining the field. She could almost feel the soft moss beneath her, gentle and inviting.
“As you lie in this perfect little hollow,” the cloud continued, “a chorus of fireflies begins to glow, winking on and off like tiny, friendly lighthouses. They dance in the air, making silent, glittering patterns, just for your eyes.”
A tiny smile played on Ivy’s lips. She pictured the fireflies, each one a little spark of magic.
“Above you, the stars begin to sing,” the Whispering Cloud’s voice grew even softer, like a lullaby. “They don’t sing with words, but with a gentle shimmer, a twinkling hum that fills the night with calm. Each twinkle is a wish for sweet dreams, a promise of a peaceful night.”
Ivy felt her body relax, sinking deeper into her bed. The imaginary moss felt so real, so comforting.
“The air around you is scented with lavender and sleepy wildflowers,” the cloud murmured. “Each breath you take fills you with stillness, chasing away any wiggles or worries. You feel lighter and lighter, as if you could float among the stars yourself.”
Ivy took a deep, slow breath, just like the cloud suggested. She felt a peaceful quiet spreading through her, from her toes to the top of her head. The fireflies continued their silent dance, and the star-song hummed in her mind.
“And as the story ends,” the Whispering Cloud finished, its voice now barely a breath, “you drift into the deepest, most wonderful sleep, knowing that the perfect, mossy hollow is always there, waiting for you to dream in.”
Ivy’s eyelids grew heavy. The sound of the Whispering Cloud faded, replaced by the gentle rhythm of her own breathing. She was no longer just in her bed; she was in the field, nestled in the moss, bathed in starlight. A contented sigh escaped her lips as she drifted off to sleep, a soft, peaceful smile on her face.
