A story for: Eli, Age 4
Created November 06, 2026
Far, far away, nestled in fluffy white clouds, lived a small, gentle dragon named Eli. Eli wasn't like other dragons who breathed big, fiery flames. Eli breathed soft, shimmery moonbeams, and his scales glowed with the colors of a quiet sunset.
Every evening, Eli had a very special job. He was the Moon's best friend, and he helped the Moon get ready for a good night's sleep. Tonight, the Moon looked a little restless. It was shining very, very brightly, bouncing its light all over the sleepy world. "Oh, dear Moon," Eli whispered in his soft, rumbling voice, like a purring kitten. "Are you finding it hard to drift off tonight?"
The Moon twinkled a little extra brightly, which was its way of saying, "Yes, Eli! I have so much light to give, I can't quite dim down."
Eli smiled. He floated closer to the big, round Moon, his glowing scales casting a gentle, warm light. "Don't you worry, my dear friend," he cooed. "I know just what to do." Eli took a very deep breath, filling his dragon lungs with cool, night air. Then, he gently breathed out a long, slow stream of shimmery moonbeams. These moonbeams weren't bright and bouncy like the Moon's; they were soft and hazy, like a whispered lullaby.
He slowly circled the Moon, his breath wrapping around it like a cozy, warm blanket. Each time Eli breathed out, the Moon's bright glow softened just a little. The sharp edges of its light began to blur, becoming gentle and sleepy. Eli hummed a little tune, a melody made of starlight and quiet breezes. It was a tune that made everything feel safe and peaceful.
He saw the little stars around them start to twinkle more gently, too, as if they were settling down for the night. The clouds drifted by, slow and quiet, like fluffy sheep going to sleep in a big, blue field. Eli watched as the Moon's face softened, its bright smile turning into a peaceful, dreaming look. It wasn't bouncing its light anymore; it was just resting, a soft, silver glow in the dark sky.
"There you go, my dear Moon," Eli whispered, giving a final, soft puff of moonbeams. "Sweet dreams." He watched for a moment longer, making sure the Moon was truly tucked in for the night. Then, feeling very happy and a little sleepy himself, Eli found a soft, cloud bed of his own. He curled into a warm ball, his sunset-colored scales glowing softly in the quiet night. He closed his eyes, feeling the gentle sway of the clouds and the peaceful hum of the sleeping world, and drifted off to sleep, dreaming of soft moonbeams and quiet stars.
