Wren's Dream Blanket

A story for: Wren, Age 5

Created September 01, 2026

Tonight, as the stars began to twinkle like tiny fairy lights in the sky, a little girl named Wren snuggled into her bed. Her favorite teddy bear, Mr. Snuggles, was tucked right beside her. Wren loved bedtime because that’s when her imagination could fly like a little bird, high above the rooftops.

Her mommy came in, gave her a kiss, and said, "Tonight, Wren, let's make you a special dream blanket. What would you like it to be made of?"

Wren thought very hard. She closed her eyes and pictured all sorts of wonderful things. "Fluffy clouds!" she whispered, opening her eyes wide. "And the softest petals from the biggest, pinkest roses!"

Her mommy smiled. "What a wonderful start! So, your dream blanket begins with soft, fluffy clouds, like giant cotton balls, and gentle rose petals that smell so sweet. What colors would it be?"

Wren giggled. "It would be sunset colors! Swirly oranges, sleepy purples, and calm blues, just like when the sun says goodnight to the day."

"Perfect," her mommy murmured, gently stroking Wren's hair. "And what if your dream blanket could make a sound? What would it be?"

Wren listened very carefully to the quiet night. "It would hum a soft, gentle song," she decided. "Like the sound of a happy little bird singing a lullaby, or the whisper of the wind through the leaves outside my window."

"Lovely," her mommy said. "Now, imagine your dream blanket is keeping you safe and cozy. What special powers does it have?"

Wren thought of all the fun things she did during the day. "It helps me remember all the happy things! Like playing with my friends, and splashing in puddles, and eating yummy snacks! And it makes all the sleepy feelings come!"

Her mommy nodded, her eyes soft. "That sounds like the most magical blanket in the whole wide world, Wren. It’s made of fluffy clouds, soft rose petals, sunset colors, and it sings a gentle song. It reminds you of happy things and helps you feel sleepy and safe."

Wren pulled her actual blanket closer, imagining it transforming into her special dream blanket. She could almost feel the cloud-fluffiness and smell the sweet roses. The purples and blues of the sunset wrapped around her, making her feel so warm and loved. She listened, and in her mind, she heard the soft, happy bird song humming just for her.

Her eyelids started to feel heavy, like two little leaves ready to fall. She pictured all her happy memories playing like a gentle movie in her mind, each one a warm, glowing ember in her special blanket. Mr. Snuggles felt extra soft tonight. Wren took a deep, sleepy breath, and as the last echoes of the gentle lullaby drifted through her thoughts, she closed her eyes, drifting into the most wonderful, peaceful sleep.
