A story for: Theo, Age 7
Created June 27, 2026
The city hummed a soft, sleepy song as Theo snuggled deeper into his warm blankets. Outside his window, the streetlights cast a gentle glow, making the world look like a painting in shades of gold and grey.
Theo loved the city, especially at night. It wasn't loud and busy like during the day. At night, it felt like a giant, cozy blanket, tucking everyone in. He imagined the tall buildings were like friendly giants, standing guard while everyone slept. Their windows, like tiny, sleepy eyes, twinkled with a few remaining lights.
He watched a lone taxi drive by, its headlights making two golden puddles on the wet pavement. Theo imagined the taxi driver was a silent night elf, delivering dreams to people all over the city. Perhaps a dream of flying like a bird, or a dream of finding a shiny treasure chest.
The sound of a distant fire engine, a low, gentle hum, faded into the night. It wasn't a scary sound, but a comforting one, like a lullaby played just for him. Theo imagined the fire engine was a big, red dragon, breathing out sleepy clouds as it flew through the sky, making sure everyone was safe and sound.
He thought of the park, usually bustling with children and dogs. Now, the swings hung still, and the slide gleamed quietly under the moon. He pictured the trees, their leaves rustling softly, whispering secrets to each other about the day's adventures. Maybe they were telling stories about the squirrels who chased each other, or the giggles of the children playing hide-and-seek.
Theo closed his eyes, and in his mind, the city began to sparkle even brighter. The streetlights turned into a path of glowing stars, leading him to a magical playground where the swings touched the moon and the slide went straight into a cloud. The buildings transformed into friendly castles, and the distant sounds of the city became a soft, harmonious melody.
He felt so safe and warm, wrapped in his blanket and the city's gentle embrace. He imagined the moon was a friendly night light, watching over him, and the stars were tiny, sleepy eyes winking goodnight. As the city hummed its last lullaby, Theo drifted deeper and deeper into his cozy dreams, a peaceful smile on his face, surrounded by his beautiful, sleeping city.
