A story for: Sage, Age 5
Created July 03, 2026
Tonight, as the moon peeked shyly through Sage’s window, a special kind of magic began. Sage was tucked snugly in bed, but her eyes, wide and curious, were still open. She loved to imagine, and tonight, she was imagining about space.
“Zoom!” she whispered softly, pretending her bed was a cozy spaceship. “We’re going to the moon and beyond!”
Her blanket became a fluffy cloud, and her favorite teddy bear, Orion, was her co-pilot. Together, they floated gently upwards, past the tippy-tops of the tallest trees and the puffy white clouds that looked like giant cotton balls.
Soon, they were in the deep, dark, beautiful sky. It wasn’t scary dark, but a peaceful, twinkling dark, like a velvet blanket sprinkled with diamonds. Each tiny star winked hello to Sage.
“Look, Orion!” Sage giggled quietly. “A shooting star! Make a wish!”
Sage closed her eyes for a moment, wishing for sweet dreams and bright adventures. When she opened them, they were floating past a big, round, yellow moon. It looked like a giant, friendly cheese wheel, softly glowing in the night.
“Hello, Moon!” Sage whispered. The moon didn’t answer with words, but it seemed to smile, its light making everything feel soft and dreamy.
Next, they drifted past planets, each one a different color. There was a swirly red one, a striped brown one, and a beautiful blue one with shiny rings. Sage imagined friendly space creatures waving from inside the rings, though she couldn’t quite see them.
The stars grew closer, like tiny fairy lights strung across the sky. Sage felt so small and safe, floating in the vast, quiet universe. She snuggled deeper into her blanket-spaceship, feeling the gentle sway of their journey.
The soft hum of the imaginary spaceship was like a lullaby, and the distant shimmer of starlight made her eyelids feel heavy. Orion, her trusty co-pilot, was already beginning to nod off, his little bear head tilting to one side.
Sage watched a nebula, a giant cloud of colorful dust and gas, swirling like a beautiful painting. It looked like a cosmic dreamcatcher, ready to catch all her sleepy thoughts and turn them into golden dreams.
Her journey through the stars was slowing down. The twinkling lights began to blur, and the soft hum grew even quieter. Sage yawned a tiny, sleepy yawn.
She imagined her spaceship gently landing back in her bedroom, right on her soft, warm bed. The moonbeams still danced on her wall, but now they felt like a quiet goodnight kiss.
With a contented sigh, Sage closed her eyes. The stars outside her window kept watch, and in her dreams, she was still floating among them, safe and sound, until morning.
