Wren and the Dream Lantern

A story for: Wren, Age 6

Created October 03, 2026

Deep in the Whispering Woods, where the moss was extra soft and the moonlight painted silver stripes on the tree trunks, lived a little bunny named Wren.

Wren wasn't just any bunny; Wren was a very brave bunny. But even brave bunnies need help sometimes, especially when it came to finding the perfect, most wonderful dreams. You see, some nights, the dreams would hide, or they would be a little bit shy. That's why Wren had a special secret – a tiny, glowing lantern.

This wasn't just any lantern; it was the Dream Lantern. It glowed with a gentle, soft light, like a firefly’s embrace or a star winking hello. And the most magical thing about it was that it knew just where to find the best dreams for sleepy little bunnies.

Every evening, as the sky turned from bright blue to soft pink and then to a velvety indigo, Wren would carefully polish the Dream Lantern with a soft leaf. “Time to find some dreams!” Wren would whisper, and the lantern would shimmer in agreement.

Tonight, Wren snuggled into her cozy burrow. The air was cool and smelled of damp earth and sweet honeysuckle. She held the Dream Lantern close to her chest. Its warmth spread through her fur, like a little hug from the inside.

The lantern began to glow a little brighter, casting dancing shadows on the walls of Wren's burrow. It wasn't a bright, wake-you-up light, but a soft, sleepy glow, like the last embers of a campfire. It showed Wren pictures in her mind, pictures of quiet adventures and happy feelings.

First, the lantern showed Wren a field of juicy clover, taller than herself, where she could nibble and play without a care. Then, it showed her a stream, gurgling softly over smooth, round pebbles, inviting her to dip her paws in the cool water.

The light shifted again, and Wren saw herself leaping and twirling with her friends under a sky full of twinkling stars. They weren't running fast, but floating gently, like dandelion fluff on a summer breeze.

With each gentle glow, Wren felt herself sinking deeper and deeper into her soft bed. The Dream Lantern wasn't just showing her dreams; it was inviting them in, like opening a warm door on a chilly night. Her eyelids felt heavy, like two little leaves ready to close.

As the last image faded – a field of softly glowing moon-daisies – Wren let out a soft, sleepy sigh. The Dream Lantern dimmed to the faintest flicker, its work complete. It had filled Wren’s mind with peace and happy thoughts, ready for a night full of wonderful dreams. Wren snuggled deeper, a tiny smile on her face, and drifted off to sleep, tucked in by the gentle light of the Dream Lantern.
