Cleo and the Sleepy Moon

A story for: Cleo, Age 4

Created October 24, 2026

High above the sleepy town, nestled in the softest, fluffiest clouds, lived a kind little dragon named Cleo. Cleo wasn't like the big, roaring dragons you might hear about in tales. Oh no! Cleo was small and gentle, with scales the color of a calm sunset and wings that shimmered like a rainbow when she flew. Her favorite thing to do was watch the world go to sleep.

Every night, Cleo would see the stars twinkle on, one by one, like tiny diamonds sprinkled across a dark blue blanket. And then, the Moon would appear. Tonight, Cleo noticed something peculiar. The Moon looked a little droopy. Its big, round face, usually so bright and happy, seemed tired. The stars around it weren't twinkling as brightly either.

Cleo, with her warm, helpful heart, knew she had to do something. She carefully flapped her rainbow wings and soared gently towards the tired Moon. "Hello, dear Moon!" Cleo whispered, her voice like a soft chime. "You look a little sleepy tonight. Is everything alright?"

The Moon let out a big, soft sigh. "Oh, Cleo," it rumbled, a sound like a gentle breeze. "I've been working so hard lighting up the night sky, and I just can't seem to fall asleep. My eyes feel heavy, and I keep yawning."

Cleo understood. She often felt sleepy after a long day of flying and playing. "I know just what to do!" she chirped. "I can help you relax and drift off to dreamland."

First, Cleo flew around the Moon, singing a soft, humming lullaby. Her voice was so sweet and low, it made the air feel warm and cozy. As she sang, Cleo gently blew tiny puffs of warm, sparkly breath onto the Moon's face. These weren't hot dragon breaths, but soft, glowing whispers of sleepiness.

The Moon's eyes started to close a little more. "That feels lovely, Cleo," it murmured.

Next, Cleo gathered the softest, fluffiest clouds she could find. She gently arranged them around the Moon, making a big, pillowy bed. "There," she whispered, "now you have a comfortable place to rest your head."

Finally, Cleo used her tail to gently smooth out the edges of the night sky, making sure there were no bumpy clouds to disturb the Moon's slumber. She dimmed the nearby stars just a tiny bit, so the light wouldn't be too bright.

The Moon nestled into its cloud bed, its big, round face finally peaceful. A tiny smile appeared on its lips. "Thank you, little Cleo," it whispered, its voice already fading. "You've made me feel so cozy and sleepy."

Cleo watched as the Moon's breathing became slow and even. The stars around it began to twinkle more softly, like they were tiptoeing so as not to wake their sleeping friend. Cleo knew her job was done.

She flew back to her own cloud bed, feeling warm and happy. As she snuggled down, listening to the gentle sounds of the quiet night, Cleo closed her own eyes. Soon, she too was fast asleep, dreaming sweet dreams of moonbeams and soft, fluffy clouds.
