Ruby's Twinkling Dance

A story for: Ruby, Age 3

Created September 07, 2026

Once upon a time, in a cozy little house, lived a sweet little girl named Ruby. Ruby loved to dance more than anything else in the whole wide world! She had a sparkly pink tutu and tiny ballet slippers that made a soft *tap-tap* sound when she twirled.

Tonight, the moon was peeking through her window like a friendly nightlight, and the stars were beginning to twinkle. Ruby felt a little sleepy, but also a little bit like dancing. "Just one more dance," she whispered to her favorite teddy bear, Barnaby.

Ruby put on her sparkly tutu. It felt soft and feathery. She put on her tiny ballet slippers. They felt snug and just right. She stood in the middle of her room, took a deep breath, and began to dance. Her arms floated up like butterfly wings, and her feet moved gently, *tip-toe, tip-toe*.

She imagined she was dancing in a field of sleepy daisies, each one nodding its head as she passed. Then, she imagined she was dancing on a fluffy cloud, so soft and bouncy. Her movements became slower, like a falling feather, as she imagined the cloud gently floating her down.

Barnaby watched from his spot on the bed, his button eyes wide and peaceful. The moonbeams danced with Ruby, making little shimmers on her pink tutu. *Sway, sway*, went Ruby, like a flower in a gentle breeze. *Spin, spin*, she went, but so slowly, so softly, that it was almost like she was dreaming while awake.

Her eyelids felt heavier with each gentle turn. The music in her head, the quiet, humming music of her own heart, began to slow down. Her steps became tinier, her arm movements softer. She wasn't twirling fast anymore. She was just swaying, like a little boat rocking on a calm, sleepy lake.

Ruby took one last, very slow spin. Her ballet slippers made the softest *shush* on the carpet. She yawned a tiny yawn, a sweet, sleepy yawn. She walked over to her bed, her legs feeling like warm jelly. She snuggled under her covers, pulling Barnaby close.

Her sparkly tutu and tiny ballet slippers lay beside her bed, waiting for another day. Ruby closed her eyes. The stars outside her window twinkled just for her, and the moon smiled. She dreamed of dancing on soft, fluffy clouds, slowly, gently, all the way to a peaceful sleep. Goodnight, sweet Ruby.
