A story for: Ruby, Age 3
Created June 23, 2026
Once upon a time, nestled in a cozy little burrow beneath a big, friendly oak tree, lived a brave little bunny named Ruby.
Ruby had soft, white fur, a twitchy pink nose, and the brightest, most curious eyes. Every night, as the sun dipped down and the stars began to twinkle like tiny diamonds, Ruby would get ready for her most important job.
Ruby wasn't just any bunny; she was the keeper of the Dream Lantern. This wasn't an ordinary lantern. Oh no! It glowed with a gentle, warm light, not too bright, not too dim, just perfect for lighting up the path to wonderful dreams.
Tonight, Ruby carefully polished the smooth glass of the Dream Lantern with a soft clover leaf. It shimmered and gleamed. Then, she held it close to her tiny bunny heart, feeling its gentle warmth.
"Time to light the dreams," she whispered to herself. She hopped out of her burrow, not far, just to the edge of the quiet meadow. The moon was a sleepy crescent, and the crickets were singing a soft lullaby.
Ruby held the Dream Lantern up high. Its golden light spread out, like a warm, cozy blanket, over the sleeping flowers and the dozing little birds in their nests. She imagined the light gently touching the heads of all the sleeping children, helping them find their way to happy, peaceful dreams.
She thought of a dream where a child was flying on the back of a friendly dragon, soaring above fluffy clouds. She thought of a dream where a child was building a tall, wobbly tower of soft blocks. She thought of a dream where a child was giggling with a playful puppy.
With each happy thought, the Dream Lantern glowed a tiny bit brighter, sending out more and more sleepy magic. Ruby felt a warm, fuzzy feeling spread through her, knowing she was helping everyone have the sweetest, gentlest dreams.
After a little while, Ruby started to feel sleepy herself. The crickets' song sounded softer, the moon looked sleepier, and even the stars seemed to twinkle with a slower, gentler blink. Her little paws felt heavy, and her eyelids began to droop.
She carefully carried the Dream Lantern back to her burrow. She snuggled into her soft, mossy bed, placing the lantern gently beside her. Its light filled her burrow with a cozy, comforting glow.
Ruby yawned a tiny, bunny yawn. She closed her eyes, feeling safe and warm. The Dream Lantern's soft light danced around her, and Ruby drifted off to sleep, ready for her own wonderful dreams, knowing that everyone else was dreaming sweet dreams too, all thanks to her and her special lantern.
