A story for: Ruby, Age 3
Created October 13, 2026
Once upon a time, in a cozy little house nestled beside a field of soft, fluffy dandelions, lived a sweet little girl named Ruby. Ruby had the brightest smile and eyes that sparkled like the tiny stars she loved to watch.
Tonight, as the sun began to dip behind the hills, painting the sky in sleepy shades of orange and pink, Ruby was getting ready for bed. Her mommy helped her put on her softest pajamas, which were covered in little sheep jumping over fences.
“Ruby,” her mommy whispered, “tonight, we’re going on a very special adventure. A quiet, sleepy adventure.”
Ruby giggled softly. She snuggled under her warm blanket, and her mommy sat beside her, holding her hand. “Close your eyes, my little princess,” her mommy said. “And imagine you are in a beautiful, twinkling garden.”
Ruby squeezed her eyes shut. She imagined tiny lights all around her, like fireflies dancing. The air felt warm and smelled like sweet flowers. She could hear the gentle rustle of leaves and the soft chirping of crickets.
“In this garden, Ruby,” her mommy continued, “there is a special path, made of moonlight. It glows softly, leading you through sleepy bushes and past friendly, sleeping flowers.”
Ruby imagined walking on the moonlight path. It felt cool and smooth under her bare feet. She saw big, sleepy sunflowers bowing their heads, and little bluebells gently swaying.
“As you walk, Ruby, you notice something wonderful,” her mommy’s voice was a soft, sleepy hum. “Up above, the stars are beginning to fall, not with a plop, but with a gentle, sparkling float, right into your hands.”
Ruby imagined a tiny, shimmering star floating down, just for her. It landed in her palm, warm and soft, like a little puff of light. It didn’t hurt at all, it just made her feel cozy.
“Each star whispers a sleepy secret,” her mommy said. “A secret about happy dreams and peaceful sleep. One star tells you about playing with fluffy clouds, another about riding on a friendly, sleepy owl.”
Ruby collected a few more stars. Each one felt so soft and made her feel even sleepier. She tucked them gently into her pockets, saving their sleepy secrets for her dreams.
The moonlight path led her to a soft, mossy bed under a big, friendly tree. The air was getting cooler, and the stars in the sky above twinkled just for her.
“You lie down on the mossy bed, Ruby,” her mommy’s voice was barely a whisper now. “And as you do, the stars in your pockets start to glow very softly, making you feel warm and safe. They are ready to share their sleepy secrets with you all night long.”
Ruby felt herself drifting, feeling lighter and lighter. The cozy warmth of the imagined stars spread through her, making her eyelids feel very, very heavy. She took a deep, sleepy breath, and a soft, peaceful sigh escaped her lips. The day was done, and her dreams were just beginning, full of sparkling stars and quiet adventures. Ruby was fast asleep.
