Sage and the Sleepy Stars

A story for: Sage, Age 3

Created July 20, 2026

Once upon a time, in a cozy little house tucked under a big, friendly tree, lived a brave little girl named Sage. Sage loved to explore and discover new things. She knew all the best places to find sparkly pebbles and the softest patches of grass for her teddy bear picnics.

Tonight, as the sun began to dip behind the hills, painting the sky with colors of warm orange and soft pink, Sage was getting ready for bed. Her mommy helped her put on her favorite pajamas, the ones with the little moon and star patterns all over them. Sage giggled as she brushed her teeth, making silly faces in the mirror. She felt so brave, just like a little astronaut ready for a space adventure.

After her teeth were sparkly clean, Sage snuggled into her bed. Her blankets felt like a soft cloud, and her favorite bunny, Pip, was already waiting for her. Mommy pulled the curtains open just a tiny bit, letting a sliver of moonlight peek into the room. "Look, Sage," she whispered gently. "The sleepy stars are starting to twinkle."

Sage looked out the window. Sure enough, tiny lights were starting to dot the dark sky. Each one seemed to blink a soft 'hello.' Sage imagined them winking just for her. She knew the stars were very, very far away, but they still felt close and friendly tonight. She wasn't scared of the dark when the stars were there, watching over her like little nightlights in the sky.

"The stars are brave, too, aren't they, Mommy?" Sage asked, her voice a little sleepy now. "They shine so brightly all night long."

"They certainly are, my little star," Mommy replied, kissing Sage's forehead. "Just like you. You were so brave today, playing and learning and being so kind to Pip. And now it's time for brave little girls and brave little stars to rest."

Mommy began to hum a quiet, lullaby. It was a tune that felt like a warm hug and smelled like bedtime stories. Sage closed her eyes. She imagined herself floating gently among the stars, each one a tiny, friendly whisper of light. She felt safe, she felt loved, and she felt incredibly brave. Pip was tucked securely in her arms, his soft fur a comfort. The lullaby floated around her like a warm, soft blanket. Sage took a deep, peaceful breath. Her eyelids felt heavy, like tiny curtains closing for the night. She drifted deeper and deeper into her cozy bed, dreaming of shining stars and brave adventures, until she was fast asleep, with a gentle smile on her face.
