A story for: Ivy, Age 7
Created September 08, 2026
Tonight, as the stars began to twinkle like tiny diamond dust sprinkled across a velvet blanket, Ivy snuggled deep into her soft, warm bed. Her favorite teddy bear, Orion, was tucked right beside her, ready for an adventure. Ivy loved looking out her window at the moon, a friendly, glowing pearl in the night sky.
“Orion,” she whispered, “do you think the moon ever feels lonely up there all by itself?”
Orion, of course, didn’t answer, but Ivy imagined he gave a little nod. She closed her eyes and, in her mind, a shimmering, silver staircase appeared, leading right up to her window. Taking Orion’s paw, she gently climbed, step by gentle step, until they floated out into the cool, quiet night.
The moon, much closer now, looked even bigger and more inviting. It wasn’t lonely at all! Tiny, friendly moonbeams danced around them, tickling Ivy’s nose and making her giggle softly. The moon smelled faintly of stardust and warm milk, a very comforting smell indeed.
“Hello, Moon!” Ivy whispered. The moon seemed to hum a soft, lullaby tune in response, a melody that made her feel safe and loved.
Then, a tiny, glowing path unfurled before them, made of sparkling cosmic dust. It led them past sleepy planets, each one a different shade of blue or green, turning slowly, peacefully in their own space. They saw Mars, a sleepy orange marble, and Jupiter, with its gentle swirly clouds, looking like a giant, soft pillow.
Ivy and Orion floated past a field of twinkling stars, which whispered secrets to each other in soft, happy murmurs. Some stars were tiny blinks of light, while others glowed with a warm, steady shine, like friendly nightlights in the vast dark.
“It’s so quiet and beautiful,” Ivy thought, her eyelids feeling a little heavy. The universe was like a giant, cozy blanket, and she felt like a tiny, cherished part of it.
As they drifted further, they saw a comet, not zooming fast, but gliding slowly, its tail a soft, feathery brushstroke across the blackness. It looked like a sleepy goldfish swimming through a very big, dark pond.
Ivy yawned, a wide, comfortable yawn. Orion felt very soft against her cheek. The moonbeams grew warmer, wrapping around her like a gentle hug. The soft hum of the universe was a perfect bedtime song.
Slowly, gracefully, the silver staircase reappeared, leading them back to her window. With one last, sleepy wave to the moon, Ivy and Orion floated back into her room, landing softly on her bed. The moon’s gentle glow filtered through her window, painting soft shadows on her wall.
Ivy snuggled deeper into her covers, Orion still tucked close. The memory of the quiet, beautiful universe filled her mind. The soft hum of the stars and the gentle lullaby of the moon lingered, making her feel peaceful and completely at ease. Her breathing became slow and steady, like the gentle turning of a faraway planet. Her eyelids, already heavy, fluttered closed, and Ivy drifted into a deep, dreamless sleep, wrapped in the cosmic cuddles of her imagination.
