Nora and the Sleepy Moon

A story for: Nora, Age 3

Created August 09, 2026

Once upon a time, high above the world, lived a little girl named Nora. Nora loved the moon very much. Every night, before she snuggled into her bed, she would peek out her window and wave goodnight to the big, bright, round moon.

But one night, something was different. The moon didn't look very bright. It looked a little droopy and tired. Nora frowned. "Oh dear," she whispered, "the moon looks sleepy!"

Just then, a tiny, soft flicker of light appeared in Nora's room. It wasn't scary, it was warm and sparkly. From the flicker, emerged a friendly, fluffy dragon! He wasn't big and scaly; he was small and covered in soft, silver fur, like a cloud. He had big, gentle eyes that twinkled like little stars. "Hello, Nora," the little dragon whispered, his voice like the rustle of leaves. "My name is Flicker. I've come to help."

Nora's eyes widened. "You're a dragon!" she gasped softly. "And you can help the moon?"

Flicker nodded. "Yes. The moon has had a very busy day, shining for everyone. She needs a little help to fall asleep. Will you come with me?"

Nora, who loved adventures, nodded eagerly. Flicker gently scooped her up, and they floated out of the window, higher and higher, until they were close to the sleepy moon.

"What can we do?" Nora asked, looking at the tired moon.

Flicker smiled. "We can sing a lullaby." He began to hum a soft, gentle tune, and Nora, feeling its calming magic, joined in. Her voice was sweet and quiet, like a little bell.

As they sang, Flicker let out tiny puffs of warm, shimmery air. It wasn't hot, it was like a cozy blanket made of starlight. The shimmery air floated around the moon, tucking it in softly. Nora gently stroked the moon's surface, which felt smooth and cool, like a giant, sleepy pearl.

The moon sighed a happy, sleepy sigh. Its light grew softer and softer, and its big, round face began to close its eyes. Soon, the moon was gently swaying, fast asleep, dreaming sweet dreams of stars and clouds.

"We did it!" Nora whispered, feeling so happy. Flicker gave her a gentle nuzzle. "You have a very kind heart, Nora," he said.

Flicker carried Nora back to her window, just as her own eyes started to feel heavy. He tucked her into her bed, pulling her soft blanket up to her chin. "Goodnight, Nora," he whispered, and then, with another soft flicker, he was gone.

Nora closed her eyes, remembering the sleepy moon and the kind dragon. She felt warm and safe, and soon, she was drifting off to her own wonderful dreams, just like the moon.
