A story for: Luna, Age 4
Created September 19, 2026
Once upon a time, in a city where buildings touched the clouds and streetlights twinkled like fallen stars, lived a little girl named Luna. Luna had eyes that sparkled like the morning dew, and a heart full of curiosity. Every night, as the sun dipped behind the tall skyscrapers, Luna would snuggle into her soft bed, but her mind was still full of the day's adventures and the quiet hum of the city.
Tonight, Luna imagined a special journey. She closed her eyes and felt herself floating gently out of her window. Not up, up, up into the dark sky, but just a little float, like a dandelion seed on a soft breeze. She drifted past the rooftops, where the little red lights of antennas blinked, saying, 'Goodnight, Luna!'
Her first stop was the big clock tower. Tick-tock, tick-tock, went the friendly clock, but it wasn't loud. It was a soft, sleepy tick-tock, like a lullaby for the city. Luna saw the hands moving ever so slowly, marking the time for dreams to begin. She waved to the clock, and it seemed to wink one of its numbers back at her.
Next, Luna floated over the park. During the day, the park was full of laughter and running feet. But now, it was quiet and still. The trees rustled their leaves gently, making a shhh-shhh sound, like they were telling the grass and the flowers to sleep. Luna saw a little squirrel tucked into its nest, dreaming of acorns, and a fluffy cat curled up on a bench, dreaming of chasing butterflies. Everything was peaceful.
Then, Luna drifted past the library, a big building with lots of books. Even though it was dark, Luna knew inside, all the stories were sleeping too, waiting for morning to be read again. She imagined the princesses dreaming of castles and the brave knights dreaming of friendly dragons. It made her feel warm and cozy to think of all those sleepy stories.
Finally, Luna floated back towards her window, feeling a gentle pull like a soft blanket being tucked around her. She saw her own bedroom light glowing softly, a little star just for her. As she snuggled back into her bed, the city lights outside her window seemed to dim just a tiny bit, as if they knew it was time for her to rest.
She took a deep breath, smelling the clean night air, and let out a soft sigh. The quiet hum of the city was no longer exciting, but soothing. It was like a big, gentle hum that helped her drift away. Luna closed her eyes again, and this time, the city's lullaby lights guided her to a peaceful sleep, full of wonderful, gentle dreams.
