A story for: Leo, Age 7
Created June 28, 2026
Leo snuggled deep into his soft blankets, his teddy bear, Barnaby, tucked under his arm. Outside, the world was growing dark, but inside his room, a warm, gentle glow filled the air, like a promise of sweet dreams.
Tonight, Leo's mom told him a special secret. "When you close your eyes, Leo," she whispered, "sometimes you can visit Rainbow Land. It's a place where colors dance, and the air smells like magic and wishes."
Leo closed his eyes, thinking about colors. First, he saw a sleepy, soft red, like the strawberries his grandma grew. Then, a cozy orange, like the sunset just outside his window. Next came a cheerful yellow, bright as a daisy and warm like sunshine on his face.
He imagined he was floating, not like flying fast, but gently, like a feather drifting on a warm breeze. The air around him was shimmering, and when he peeked open one eye, just a tiny bit, he saw it! Not with his regular eyes, but with his dream eyes.
He was in Rainbow Land! The path beneath his bare feet was made of shimmering green moss, so soft and cool. Trees had leaves of every shade of green, some sparkling like emeralds, others deep and peaceful like a forest glade.
Further on, he saw a crystal-clear blue river, flowing slowly with tiny, silvery fish that winked hello. The water sang a soft, humming tune as it trickled over smooth, round stones. He dipped his toes in, and it felt like cool silk.
Above him, the sky was a beautiful indigo, dotted with gentle, sleepy stars that twinkled a lullaby. And then, the most wonderful color of all appeared – a soft, swirling violet, like the sweetest lavender flower. It painted the edges of fluffy clouds that looked like giant, sleepy sheep.
Leo giggled softly. He wasn't alone. Little creatures, no bigger than his thumb, flitted by. They were made of pure light, each one a tiny sparkle of a different color. They didn't speak with words, but with soft, tinkling sounds, like tiny bells made of starlight.
One little light-creature, a cheerful yellow one, zipped around him, then settled gently on Barnaby's nose. Barnaby’s button eyes seemed to twinkle in response.
Leo felt a gentle wave of sleepiness wash over him, as soft as the clouds in Rainbow Land. The colors around him began to soften, blurring into a beautiful, peaceful pastel. The humming river, the tinkling light-creatures, and the sleepy stars all sang a quiet, sleepy song.
He yawned a big, happy yawn. Rainbow Land was the most wonderful, calming place. As the colors around him faded into a dreamy mist, Leo snuggled even deeper into his bed, a soft smile on his face. He was still floating, but now it was a comfortable, drifting feeling, carrying him further and further into a deep, peaceful sleep.
