A story for: Sage, Age 6
Created November 06, 2026
Once upon a time, high above the whispering trees and the soft, green hills, lived a very special dragon named Sage. Sage wasn't like the dragons in exciting adventure stories. Oh no, Sage was a gentle dragon, with scales the color of amethyst and wings like the finest silk. Her favorite thing to do was to watch the world as it drifted off to sleep.
Every evening, as the sun dipped below the horizon, Sage would unfurl her wings and gently lift into the twilight sky. Her job, you see, was a very important one. Sage was the moon's best friend, and she helped the moon get ready for a long night of shining brightly.
Tonight, as Sage soared higher and higher, she noticed something a little different. The Moon, usually so round and cheerful, looked a bit… droopy. Its silvery light wasn't as bright, and it seemed to be sighing a tiny, silvery sigh.
"Oh dear, Moon," Sage cooed, her voice a soft rumble like distant thunder. "Are you feeling sleepy tonight?"
The Moon blinked slowly. "Oh, Sage," it whispered, its voice like the gentle rustle of leaves. "I'm just so very tired. I've been up all day, getting ready to shine, and now I feel all fuzzy and sleepy. How can I possibly light up the night for all the sleeping animals and dreaming children?"
Sage smiled warmly. "Don't you worry, my dear Moon. That's what I'm here for!"
First, Sage gently nudged a fluffy cloud, guiding it to drift slowly in front of the Moon, like a soft blanket. "There," she hummed. "A cozy cloud-blanket to help you feel snuggled."
Next, Sage took a deep, warm breath, and instead of fire, a shower of tiny, sparkling star-dust drifted from her nose. She sprinkled it gently around the Moon. "These are special sleepy-dust sprinkles," she explained. "They make everything feel calm and quiet."
The Moon let out a tiny yawn, a beautiful, silent yawn that made a few more stars twinkle.
Then, Sage began to hum a soft, wordless lullaby, a melody so gentle it sounded like the breeze whispering through the highest branches. She circled the Moon slowly, her large, kind eyes watching it become more relaxed. The Moon's light, which had been dim, began to glow with a steady, peaceful gleam. It wasn't sparkling brightly yet, but it was a soft, comforting light, just right for sleeping.
"There you go, sweet Moon," Sage whispered, as the Moon closed its sleepy eyes, ready to shine all night long in its dreams. "Rest well."
Sage then drifted down, down, down, back to her own cozy cloud bed. She curled up, feeling the gentle breeze on her scales. The world below was quiet now, lit by the peaceful glow of the dreaming Moon. Sage closed her own eyes, a soft smile on her face, and drifted off to sleep, ready for another magical morning.
