A story for: Remy, Age 7
Created July 31, 2026
Remy loved dinosaurs more than anything. Not the roaring, stomping kind that made the ground shake, but the gentle, plant-eating giants, the ones with long necks that nibbled on leaves and the ones with frilly shields that munched on ferns. Every night, before bed, Remy would look at his dinosaur books, tracing the lines of their magnificent shapes with a sleepy finger.
Tonight, as the moon peeked through his window like a friendly eye, Remy snuggled under his favorite dinosaur-patterned blanket. His toy Triceratops, named Spike, lay beside him, its three horns pointing softly towards the ceiling. Remy closed his eyes, and a magical thing happened, just like it often did when he was almost asleep.
He wasn't in his bed anymore. He was in a warm, green forest, bathed in a soft, silvery light that wasn't quite sunlight or moonlight. Giant ferns taller than his house swayed gently, making a sound like a quiet whisper. "Whoosh...whoosh..." they seemed to say.
Remy looked around. This was a dinosaur forest! He could smell the damp earth and the sweet scent of ancient plants. He felt safe and curious, not scared at all. Then, through the rustling ferns, he saw them. A herd of Brontosauruses, their long necks stretching high to reach the tender leaves at the top of the tallest trees. They moved slowly, gracefully, like giant, living shadows.
One young Brontosaurus, no bigger than Remy's house, lowered its head and looked at him with big, kind eyes. It let out a soft, rumbling sound, a sound that felt like a gentle hug. "Hello," Remy whispered, though he knew the dinosaur couldn't understand his words. He just felt understood.
The Brontosaurus continued to munch, its powerful jaws gently tearing at the leaves. Remy watched, mesmerized by the rhythm of its eating, the soft swish of its tail as it moved a step closer. The air was peaceful, filled with the quiet sounds of the forest – the rustle of leaves, the distant coo of an ancient bird, and the gentle, steady breathing of the dinosaurs.
Remy felt his own breathing slow down, matching the peaceful rhythm of the forest. He leaned against a giant, mossy tree trunk, feeling its coolness against his back. Spike, his toy Triceratops, was still right beside him, a comforting presence. The young Brontosaurus dipped its head once more, almost as if saying goodnight.
The whispering ferns grew softer, their "whoosh...whoosh..." turning into a lullaby. The silvery light grew even dimmer, painting the world in shades of sleepy gray and deep green. Remy's eyelids felt heavier than the heaviest dinosaur. He knew the dinosaurs would be there in his dreams, munching on leaves, walking slowly, and always, always being gentle. He closed his eyes, a small, happy smile on his face, and drifted into a deep, peaceful sleep, surrounded by the quiet magic of the dinosaur forest.
