Cleo's Cozy Cave

A story for: Cleo, Age 7

Created July 27, 2026

Cleo snuggled deeper into her bed, the soft blankets feeling like a warm hug. Outside her window, the last slivers of daylight were fading, painting the sky in gentle shades of orange and purple. Soon, the stars would begin to peek out, like tiny diamonds scattered across a velvet cloth.

Cleo loved her bedroom. It was her own special place, her cozy cave. She looked around at the familiar objects. Her favorite stuffed elephant, Elly, sat patiently on the pillow beside her, ready for stories and dreams. The little nightlight in the shape of a friendly moon glowed softly from the corner, chasing away any shadows that might try to sneak in.

She remembered the adventures she’d had in her room today. Earlier, her rug had become a vast ocean, and her toy boat had bravely sailed across it, carrying a crew of brave little animal figures. Later, her closet had transformed into a secret castle, where she, the queen, had protected her kingdom from imaginary dragons (who were actually just fluffy dust bunnies).

Now, as the quiet of evening settled, her room felt different. It was a place for resting, for dreaming. Cleo closed her eyes for a moment and imagined her bed becoming a fluffy cloud, floating gently through the night sky. She could feel the soft breezes whispering lullabies as she drifted higher and higher, past the moon and the winking stars.

She thought about the pictures on her wall – a bright sun, a cheerful rainbow, and a fluffy white lamb. Each one seemed to smile down at her, promising sweet dreams. Her bedside table held her favorite book, its pages filled with wonderful stories of friendly creatures and magical forests. She knew that even when she was asleep, the stories would wait patiently for her to open them again in the morning.

Cleo took a deep, slow breath, feeling her chest rise and fall. The air was calm and still. She imagined the quiet hum of the house, a gentle whisper that said, “Sleep, little one, sleep.” Her eyelids felt heavy, like tiny curtains slowly closing. Elly was warm beside her, a comforting presence. The moonlight from her nightlight cast a soft glow, making everything feel safe and peaceful.

Her thoughts began to swirl and blur, like watercolors mixing together. She was no longer thinking about castles or oceans, but about the softness of her pillow, the warmth of her blankets, and the quiet rhythm of her own breathing. A gentle yawn escaped, and Cleo snuggled even deeper, her body relaxing into the soft mattress. She was a little boat, gently rocking on a calm, calm sea, drifting slowly, peacefully, into the land of dreams.
