A story for: Sage, Age 3
Created September 07, 2026
Far, far down, beneath the gently waving blue, lived a tiny mermaid named Sage. Sage had a tail the color of a soft sunset, and her hair floated around her like golden seaweed. Every night, as the moon peeked through the water, Sage would get ready for bed in her cozy seashell home.
Tonight, Sage felt a little sleepy, but her eyes kept wanting to peek at the sparkling world outside. Her mommy mermaid, with her long, flowing hair, gave Sage a soft, silvery hug. "Time for bed, little fish," she whispered, her voice like the calmest ocean current. "Let's find some sleepy magic."
Sage snuggled into her bed, which was made from the softest, pinkest coral. She looked around her room. Her favorite toy, a little pufferfish named Puffy, was already tucked in beside a shiny, round pearl. "Puffy looks so comfy," Sage yawned.
Her mommy began to sing a soft, slow song. It was a song about the quiet ocean, about the sleepy fish drifting to their beds, and about the stars that twinkled even through the deep, deep water. Sage closed her eyes, imagining the little fish, one by one, finding their own snuggly spots.
"Tonight, let's play the 'Shimmering Seashell' game," Mommy said gently. "Close your eyes tight, little one, and imagine you are floating on a big, smooth seashell. This seashell is so peaceful, it just bobs up and down, up and down, very slowly, on the calmest part of the ocean."
Sage squeezed her eyes shut. She could almost feel the cool, gentle water around her, rocking her like a lullaby. The seashell was big and warm, like a soft blanket. "Up and down," she murmured, her voice getting softer and softer.
"Now, imagine the seashell is taking you to a sleepy garden," Mommy continued. "In this garden, the flowers are made of glowing pearls, and they sway ever so gently in the quiet water. Each pearl flower has a soft, sleepy light, making everything feel peaceful and calm."
Sage pictured the glowing pearl flowers. They weren't bright, but a soft, warm glow that made her feel safe and cozy. She took a deep breath, like a little fish taking in the peaceful water. She could hear the soft, distant hum of the ocean, a gentle 'shhhhhh' sound that was just for her.
"And as you float on your shimmering seashell," Mommy whispered, her voice like the most tender wave, "you see the other little sea creatures, all tucked into their beds. The seahorses are swaying gently, the starfish are sparkling quietly, and even the biggest whales are sleeping soundly, deep below."
Sage’s breathing became slow and steady. The images in her mind were soft and blurry now. The rocking of the seashell, the glowing pearls, the quiet hum of the ocean. Her eyelids felt heavy, so very heavy. She was so safe, so warm, so loved. With a tiny, sleepy sigh, Sage drifted off to sleep, dreaming of shimmering seashells and glowing pearl gardens, floating gently, gently, until morning.
