A story for: Arlo, Age 5
Created August 18, 2026
Far, far away, in the deepest, bluest part of the ocean, lived a very special whale named Arlo. Arlo wasn't the biggest whale, or the fastest, but he had the most beautiful singing voice in the whole wide sea. His songs were like warm, soft blankets, drifting through the water.
Every evening, as the sun began to dip its toes into the ocean, painting the sky with colors of orange and pink, Arlo knew it was time for his most important job. It was time to sing the ocean to sleep.
The little fish, with their sparkly scales, would gather around Arlo, their tiny eyes wide and sleepy. The playful dolphins would slow their flips and dives, listening intently. Even the shy crabs, usually busy scuttling, would peek from their sandy hideaways to hear Arlo's lullaby.
Arlo would take a deep, gentle breath, and then, a soft, humming sound would begin. It started low, like the quiet rumble of the waves far away. Then it would rise, smooth and sweet, like a whisper carried on the currents.
His song told stories of the calm moon watching over the sea, of gentle currents rocking the kelp forests, and of sleepy seashells dreaming on the ocean floor. It wasn't a loud song, but a soothing one, like a warm hug for every creature beneath the waves.
The little fish would tuck their fins close to their bodies, their wiggles growing slower and slower until they were perfectly still, drifting peacefully. The dolphins would float on the surface, their breaths soft puffs in the twilight air, their dreams filled with joyful leaps. The crabs would retreat fully into their burrows, cozy and safe.
As Arlo sang, the ocean itself seemed to grow calmer. The busy daytime swirls of water settled into a gentle sway. The distant sounds of the day faded, replaced by the quiet magic of the night.
When the last notes of his lullaby drifted away, the ocean was fast asleep, dreaming peaceful dreams. Arlo, feeling happy and a little sleepy himself, would find a quiet, calm patch of water. He'd close his big, kind eyes. His own body would begin to drift, gently rocking with the sleepy waves he had lulled to rest. Soon, Arlo, the wonderful singing whale, was fast asleep too, dreaming of the peaceful, starlit ocean.
