A story for: Ruby, Age 4
Created June 23, 2026
The moonbeams, soft and silver, tiptoed through Ruby’s window, painting gentle stripes across her bedroom floor. Ruby, nestled in her warm bed, gave a little sigh. It was bedtime, and her room felt extra cozy tonight.
She looked around, her eyes wide with a sleepy wonder. Her favorite pink blanket, soft as a cloud, was tucked all around her. Her cuddly teddy bear, Barnaby, lay beside her, his button eyes sparkling in the dim light. Ruby gave Barnaby a little squeeze. He felt so comforting and warm.
First, Ruby said goodnight to her bookshelf. “Goodnight, sleepy stories,” she whispered. Each book, filled with brave knights and friendly dragons, seemed to nod back at her from its shelf. She imagined the characters inside having their own quiet dreams, ready for new adventures when the morning sun peeked through.
Next, she waved to her little nightlight, shaped like a friendly star. “Goodnight, bright star,” she murmured. The star nightlight glowed with a soft, steady light, chasing away any shadows and making her room feel safe and warm. It was like having a tiny, gentle moon right there by her bed.
Then, Ruby looked at her window. Outside, the trees whispered soft goodnights to each other as a gentle breeze rustled their leaves. The moon hung high in the sky, a big, round, friendly face watching over everyone. “Goodnight, twinkly moon,” Ruby yawned, her voice soft as a butterfly’s wing.
Her bed, with its fluffy pillow and warm duvet, felt like a big, soft hug. Ruby snuggled down deeper, feeling the warmth spread through her. She thought about all the lovely things in her room – her colorful drawings on the wall, her toy box waiting patiently for tomorrow’s games, her comfy rug that felt so nice on her toes.
Each little part of her bedroom seemed to be whispering, “Sleep tight, Ruby. Dream sweet dreams.” The air in her room was peaceful and calm, like a gentle lullaby. She closed her eyes, and the silver moonbeams danced behind her eyelids, turning into sparkly, sleepy patterns.
Ruby took a deep breath, a slow, gentle breath that made her tummy go up and down. She felt so safe and loved in her cozy bedroom. The soft whispers of her room, the gentle glow of her nightlight, and the comforting presence of Barnaby all helped her drift further and further into a peaceful sleep. Soon, Ruby was fast asleep, dreaming sweet dreams, with her bedroom keeping watch over her.
