Cleo and the Shimmering Sleep Castle

A story for: Cleo, Age 4

Created September 10, 2026

Once upon a time, nestled high on a soft, green hill, stood a beautiful castle. It wasn't just any castle; it was the Shimmering Sleep Castle, and every night, it helped little ones drift off to dreamland. Inside lived a very special little girl named Cleo.

Cleo loved her castle. Its walls glowed with a soft, warm light, like a hundred fireflies dancing. Her bedroom was at the very top of the tallest tower, with a window that looked out over a sea of fluffy, silver clouds. Tonight, Cleo was getting ready for bed. Her cozy pajamas felt like a gentle hug, and her favorite stuffed bunny, Floppy, was already snuggled under the covers.

“Goodnight, little castle,” Cleo whispered, patting the cool stone wall beside her bed. The castle seemed to hum a soft, lullaby tune just for her. Outside, the moon peeked from behind a cloud, casting a silvery glow into her room. Cleo watched as the moonlight danced on her carpet, making patterns like tiny, sparkly waves.

Her mommy came in, carrying a warm mug of milk. “Time for sleepy sips, my little princess,” she cooed, gently stroking Cleo’s hair. Cleo took small, slow sips, feeling the warmth spread through her tummy. Each sip made her feel a little heavier, a little sleepier.

After her milk, Cleo snuggled down under her soft blanket. Floppy was already very still, pretending to be asleep. Cleo giggled softly. “You’re a silly bunny, Floppy,” she whispered, giving him a little squeeze.

Mommy sat on the edge of the bed and began to hum a quiet song. It was a song about stars twinkling, and sleepy flowers closing their petals for the night. Cleo closed her eyes, imagining the stars outside her window winking at her, one by one. She imagined her castle walls getting softer and softer, like giant pillows hugging her from every side.

The air in her room felt sweet and calm. Cleo listened to the gentle sounds of the night – the soft whisper of the wind outside her tower window, the quiet tick-tock of her little clock, and her mommy’s peaceful humming. Her breath grew slow and even. She felt her eyelids growing heavy, like two little sleepy butterflies resting on her eyes.

The Shimmering Sleep Castle held her safe and sound. Cleo drifted further and further into a warm, cozy cloud of sleep. She was so sleepy, so very sleepy. She dreamt of floating on a big, fluffy cloud, holding Floppy, as the moon smiled down at them, guiding them to wonderful, happy dreams. And with a soft little sigh, Cleo was fast asleep.
